11 Ways To Prevent Claims When Selling Online
We’re sharing 11 valuable tips on how to minimize the risks that come with selling your work online.
The peace of mind you get from having artists and crafters liability insurance comes from knowing you have coverage when you need it the most: filing a claim. We want you to feel confident in your coverage, so we’re sharing real stories of claims we’ve helped cover for creatives like you.
*All policies have conditions, limitations, and exclusions. Please read your policy details for exact verbiage. Claim scenario circumstances vary in nature and similar claims do not guarantee coverage. You could be held liable for any injuries or damages caused to third parties. Make sure you are aware of any harm your business or products may cause and work with caution and care. These examples have been fabricated and changed for privacy purposes.
**These claims were covered by the Tools, Supplies, & Inventory Coverage (Inland Marine) portion of the Annual policy. This is an optional coverage you can only add on to an Annual policy. These types of claims would not be covered by the standard liability coverage in the Show and Annual policies.
Having the right artists’ liability insurance helped each creative cover the cost of their claims—something not everyone can always afford. We know you already have to juggle overhead costs, vendor fees, supply costs, and more. The last thing you need is an expensive claim forcing you out of business.
With ACT, your creative business may be protected from scenarios like this with services such as:
General Liability Insurance
Yearly policy limit: $2,000,000 (Included on Act Pro and Act Go)
This coverage helps cover you for accidental injuries or damages caused by your business. This may include your tent flying into another booth at an event, or a client tripping over an easel in your art space during a custom portrait session.
Damage to Premises Rented to You
Yearly policy limit: $300,000 (Included on Act Pro and Act Go)
This coverage may help with accidental damage caused in a rented space, such as a booth at an event or a spot in a shared studio. All damage regardless of cause may be covered within the first 7 days. After that, only fire damage may be covered.
Product Liability Insurance
Yearly policy limit: $2,000,000 (Included on Act Pro only)
The products you make and sell have the potential to lead to harmful accidents. This coverage helps you pay for customer injuries or property damage caused by your products—such as an allergic reaction to metal used in handmade jewelry or hand-dyed linens staining other items when washed together.
Tools, Supplies, & Inventory Coverage
Yearly policy limit: $10,000 (Optional on Act Pro only)
Also known as Inland Marine, this coverage insures the items you use in your business against theft and damage. Some examples include art tools, specialty equipment, booth supplies, and packaging materials. Property coverage for a studio or boutique, or items permanently attached to the property, is excluded.
